A Young Female Quits Drinking, Suffers From Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Comes To A Decision To Get Alcohol Treatment
Kayla is a thirty-nine-year-old legal assistant who has been ingesting alcohol in an abusive and hazardous manner since she and her live-in boyfriend broke up. In fact, for the past three months she has been drinking just about a bottle of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking more than a few shots all the way through the day. In a word, Kayla has been drinking so hazardously and abusively that it's a wonder that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to quit drinking.
After feeling discouraged because she was beginning to ignore her health, Kayla at long last told herself that enough is enough, that it's time to quit the self pity act, that it's time to quit the excessive and hazardous drinking, and time to move on with her life. So the next Saturday morning at 8:00 AM, she came to a decision that she would quit drinking suddenly and completely without preparation or planning.
When she called her best friend and informed her that she had stopped drinking and that after a couple of hours she suddenly started to experience flu-like symptoms, Beth, her best buddy, told Kayla to call her physician and explain in a clear manner what she was experiencing.
Her medical practitioner informed her that she may be experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have someone drive her to the emergency room as soon as possible. It appears that her physician had phoned ahead and told the emergency room treatment team to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by two ER workers who without hesitation told her to lie down on the portable bed they had with them.
A doctor administered some medications to reduce the discomfort of her flu-like symptoms and also gave her some drugs to help get rid of the alcohol that was still in her circulatory system. After a few hours, Kayla was removed from the emergency room and wheeled to the recovery room.
After she was in recovery for nearly an hour, Doctor Katz, a chemical dependency and substance abuse specialist, came to visit her. He took his time and explained that Kayla had experienced alcohol withdrawals when she stopped drinking due to the fact that she had become dependent on alcohol.
He then stated that with excessive drinking on a daily basis, the individual's brain gradually adjusts to the alcohol in order to work in a "normal" fashion. When the drinker then all at once refrains from drinking alcohol, however, the brain responds by producing alcohol withdrawals. Moreover, her medical practitioner also explained the different alcoholism symptoms that an alcohol addicted individual regularly goes through as the disease progresses.
Fortunately for Kayla, it was determined that she was in the first stage of alcoholism and, consequently, she was given a favorable forecast for a full recovery if she will get the alcohol treatment she requires.
Kayla told the physician that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to regain her health. She also articulated that she has an exceptional hospitalization insurance plan that will more likely than not pay for most of the costs needed for treatment. It was clear to see that Kayla was very happy with her encouraging medical forecast and felt free from anxiety knowing that she will be able to get the alcohol treatment she needs so that she can begin the road to recovery.
