A Young Person Challenges Her Drinking Classmates To Learn More About Alcohol Abuse And Alcohol Addiction

Heather drank quite often and quite a lot with her drinking friends. One Friday after all her classes were completed, she started reflecting on her drinking behavior and the careless and irresponsible drinking of her friends. As a result of this, she asked all of her drinking friends the following question: "what do we honestly know about alcoholism, alcohol poisoning, binge drinking, and alcohol abuse? Stated more precisely, how much alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse information do we really know? For our young age, we certainly drink quite a bit and I am beginning to wonder if we are headed for a life filled with alcohol-related issues in the not so distant future.

I think we need to go on the web and discover all that is possible about alcohol abuse, alcoholism, binge drinking, and alcohol poisoning. And then if we have any questions that we do not understand after we conclude our online research, we can make an appointment at the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Woodard to explain things to us.

It should not come as a huge surprise that what Heather said would cause a heated discussion. For instance, her best friend since her freshman year in high school, Britney, stated that they are too healthy and too young to be worried about drinking to an excess. Another drinking friend named William figured that since most high school students drink there is no rational reason why they should be any different. Another pal named Molly stated that all she wants to do is to have fun drinking with her friends. And still another buddy named Dallas in point of fact agreed with Heather mainly because his parents were both alcohol abusers and both of his parents had a history of alcohol related problems.

Heather told her classmates that she comprehended everything that they had stated but that engaging in irresponsible and hazardous drinking at such a risky age really cannot be very healthy or conducive toward establishing a meaningful life. When two or three of her friends asked what kind of alcohol problems Heather was referring to, Heather mentioned the following: alcohol-related problems like alcohol poisoning (which can be fatal in some instances), alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities, and alcoholism and alcohol-related diseases such as heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver, and cancer.

When Heather then highlighted the fact that abusive and unhealthy drinking typically results in legal, school, financial, and relationship problems, some of her friends finally began to understand how extensive and how damaging careless drinking can be. Undeniably some of her drinking friends opened up and started to reveal how these alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse effects had adversely affected some of their friends and their parents.

After discussing some of the alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse problems that are related to irresponsible drinking, the majority of her friends seemed to agree to the idea about getting information on the web. They were, conversely, leery about discussing their drinking circumstances with staff at school. As Heather heard this she thought to herself, "at least they are somewhat excited about leaning more about their drinking behavior. This is a good start."
