There is a new and wonderful game in town referred to as Puzzle League! For a million times I've heard the similarities between the game bejeweled and tetris, so why don't mix the strength of both? Both Tetris and Bejeweled have a lot of clones on the internet, for example after the successful bejeweled 2 the game developers PopCap have just released bejeweled 3. As for Tetris the traditional arcade version still interests me most.

Therefore the goal of Puzzle League gets a bit from both ends. The idea of connecting three similar colored jewels we know from the game Bejeweled. The ideas of connecting blocks sliding in we know from the game Tetris, as well as the concept new rows of colored blocks appear from the bottom. Managing the sliding blocks could be done with the stylus pen of your Nintendo DS. The handheld has to be kept in vertical position; all of the action for the right hand playing puzzler occurs on the touch screen. The great game stats are placed on the screen to the left (scores & levels).

The game begins in a great fashion. All of the colored blocks can be played away in an organised and easy way. For me the game got really appealing when the factor difficulty kicked in. When that happens it really asks all of the puzzle skills you own. When you remove a row of colored blocks, the ones lying on top will move down. This is a factor that makes the game fascinating: by playing away the colored blocks in a strategic way, you could make massive combos by same colored blocks landing on top of one another. At first you may be lucky a few times, but wait until you really get the hang of it! This is when the components of Tetris and bejeweled do their addictive trick.

An excellent thing about Puzzle League is the designers of the game have inserted numerous game types to keep the game exciting for some time. For example the game contains Unlimited mode, which speaks for itself. Then you have Garbage mode, that keeps on nagging you with unnecessary blocks. When you give the game a try, you will discover for yourself. Lastly the thing that was truly an excellent addition: you can play the game online using the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection against one other opponent. Wireless play allows you to battle up to 4 players.
