The Wedding Day Is A Lot Of Individuals' Primary Focus, But The Wedding Rehearsal Supper Can Be Special, Too

There are so many preparations, expenses and pressures that go together with planning a wedding ceremony. If couples aren't mindful they can get so taken in with planning the wedding day and trying to get all the details right that there's little time to enjoy the experience. When my niece was planning her wedding day she had three bridal showers to go to, reception plans to finalize and was trying to nail down a place for the rehearsal dinner. The third wedding shower was scheduled at my house. I'm her godmother so I had wanted to have it be unique for her. Several days before the shower we talked on the phone. She sounded very pressured. She and her fiance were also having challenges deciding on the best wedding songs for the ceremony. I recommended that she get here the night before the bridal shower and stay overnight and we would relax and I would help her make a list of what remained to be done prior to the wedding day. She thought this sounded like a good plan.

I did the majority of the preparations for the bridal shower prior to my niece arriving so that we could concentrate on her needs. She said that the rehearsal dinner was her primary stress because of the fact that the location they had reserved had double booked, so they needed to find a new location. We started off by working on finding the best wedding songs for the wedding so we could get one stress out of the way thereby giving confidence that the other would be handled as well. As I thought finding the best wedding songs was just a matter of searching the web, listening to samples, placing some orders and that was that. Now on to the rehearsal dinner.

The rehearsal banquet is normally done by the groom's family; in fact some people refer to the rehearsal dinner as the groom's banquet. My niece's fiance is from a different state so his family is willing to pay for the rehearsal dinner, but they're not able to take over making the preparations. My niece had contacted the restaurant where the wedding reception will be held, but the only available space was the part where the wedding reception would be taking place. My niece explained that the plan was to decorate the wedding reception area prior to going to the church for the rehearsal.

We called two local restaurants to see if they could handle the rehearsal dinner. Both had other events scheduled. Her fiance's mom and dad are divorced, also both have married again. This meant that there were more people to include in the rehearsal dinner. This was also adding to her stress because she was doing her best to suss out the etiquette for seating. She had the seating chart arranged for the wedding, but not knowing the place the rehearsal dinner would be located restricted her ability to plan a chart.

I asked my niece if she had called the church to look into if the fellowship area would be accessible. Everyone could just mingle and have a light catered meal. This would be quite a bit less formal and would be much less difficult to plan. The fellowship area was not being used that evening. We called two delis and ordered food. My niece called her fiance and told him the new plans for the rehearsal dinner. He thought this sounded wonderful. He would make preparations to have a friend of his tend bar and would arrange for the drinks.

The rehearsal dinner was a pleasant relaxed evening. The guests were able to socialize and mingle and the bride and groom didn't feel pressured to sit in one spot while everyone ordered their food and had it served. With having a buffet line the atmosphere was very casual and the out of town guests didn't have to attempt to find another location in an area that they were not familiar with.
