Every fall I know I am going to enjoy football with my husband each Sunday. He has been a fan of the Buffalo Bills for a long time, and each year his dreams of a trip to the Super Bowl renews. Though I am aware that someone has to win and some-one has to lose, my spouse and I always have the same conversation about why the Bills are not in the big game at the end of the season. I do love to watch football with him, but every once in while it may be a dangerous pastime.
My husband doesn't just watch football. For him, it's a life experience that I can not explain. If you were to be around to see my husband watch football, you'd be under the false impression that people can now communicate through the t.v.. It's almost like a fitness routine. Not only does he roar at the competitors, he also yells at the coaches. He also disagrees with the announcers for most of the game. We don't need to talk about what he says to the officials. It's not pretty. Anyway, it's amusing, but I am trying to break it to him gently that they cannot hear him through the television and the only thing that's going on here is that I get a bit of a headache.
I have thought about inviting friends over to watch my spouse watch football. On some days I think I might be able to charge ticket admission. He's very serious about his football, and you can tell by the way he carries on. What's scary about this is that he is other-wise calm, cool, and collected. It's like football brings out the more forceful side of his personality that's rarely seen. He's getting a better fitness work-out than the competitors! It's almost as if he bottles up all of his emotions and then lets them out when it's time to watch football.
I cannot say that he is the only man that watches football games this way though. I can't tease him too much because I've seen this behavior in many other men. For some reason the coaches are all stupid, and they aren't qualified to enjoy football let by myself coach it and be in charge of the competitors physical fitness . It's probably more common than anyone might imagine, and possibly that is why men get so loud in sports bars. I have come to find out that this behavior doesn't surface when men enjoy football. It comes around when they watch most sports.
